Happy Halloween!

Here we have a ninja and "Wolverine" ready to go out and get some candy!

Veeeery intimidating...and yes, Max's mask is not in fact a Wolverine mask...but it works.

We took the kids to Halloween at Heritage Hill to trick-or-treat and play lots of Halloween-y games.

Note Liam's stance for "mummy bowling"...

And now Max's stance...!

Liam decided to try the "apple bobbing" station, where you try to bite an apple that is suspended from a string and impaled on a fork. It was HILARIOUS. We laughed and laughed, and he tried and tried! And when he was done, he and Max both got excited to choose an apple to take with them. And they both began eating them immediately. They may have been the only kids eating fruit before candy that night!

WWWWWeekend!

My Sasster and I went to Minneapolis for the weekend! We stayed in a fab hotel, jumped around our respective beds in our underwear, watched several seasons of Unsolved Mysteries, ate A LOT of food in our respective beds, drank lots of cheap wine, shopped at Macy's and laughed non-stop. It was a much needed escape for both of us. I also got to visit my friend Amber for the afternoon, catch up and play with baby Cooper! Sarah visited our cousin Kelsey, too. We packed a lot in a few days, but had so much fun!

While I was away, Liam and Max spent a night at Ron and Meg's and then Liam was whisked away for his own special night in Milwaukee. Auntie Kimmy got him tickets to "How to Train Your Dragon - The Live Spectacular" for his birthday!

By all accounts he had an awesome time! He said the dragons were "SO REAL!" and that he was "scared at first, but then it was so cool!" That's a pretty cute little Viking, there! Thanks, Auntie!!

Nightmares

Max has been waking up at least once every night crying and demanding to sleep in our bed. He is usually afraid there is a cricket in his bed, a worm in his bed, or something crawling on the wall. Saturday night we had gone to a wedding and he crashed right when we got home. He woke up crying around midnight and we got him settled back down pretty quickly. When I asked him later that morning why he had been so sad during the night he said, "I wanted to go back to the wedding."

: )

Liam and I had a mommy-son date tonight! We went to dinner at Fajita Republic (Liam's choice!), picked up a Halloween costume (ninja with sword) and got some pumpkin ice cream (Liam's choice again!). While we were eating dinner, he had some chips and spicy salsa. He took a big drink afterwards and said, "Like I always say, a little water puts the fire out!"

Love this kid.

Fire Safety Week

The fire department had the "smoke house" at Liam's school today for Fire Safety Week, and he was SO excited! After school he said he told the firefighters that his mom is a 911 dispatcher! They told him about how the dispatcher calls the fire department and sends them out to fight fires. You could tell Liam was putting the pieces of what I do together in his head. It was adorable to hear him talk about it!

He also got a big bag of fire safety stuff that he has been poring over all night. He just came upstairs crying inconsolably because he dropped his "junior fire fighter" badge sticker behind his bed. I assured him that we would pull his bed out in the morning and find it. It just made me think about how small things are so important to little kids, and that I want to make sure I encourage whatever interests he has, no matter how small or unimportant they might seem.
